Hello and welcome! I have recently relocated to Portland, Maine from Rochester, Minnesota and serve the wedding and portrait photography needs of Maine, Minnesota and beyond. This is the place to check out my most recent work and to get a glimpse into my life. Feel free to take a look around, I'd love to connect with you!

Oh the shame…

I just placed myself in that category.  You know, the I-PUT-MY-CHRISTMAS-TREE-UP-BEFORE-THANKSGIVING-BECAUSE-I’M-AN-OVERACHIEVER category.

I’m not proud of it but dang, is it pretty.  And it doesn’t even look too bad with the pumpkins.

Costumes are always fun…

…even when you can’t walk through a door, sit down or use one arm!  Happy Halloween!

Taken on my handy dandy point and shoot!

i love my love

We are going out to dinner tonight, anniversary style.  Indeed it is our fourth anniversary.  I know I don’t need to say how fast time flies but dang, time flies.  To avoid any gag reflexes in trying to sum up all the sappy thoughts and feelings I have, I’ll simply say that I love my love.  With everything.

Because I’m like a plumber who never fixes his own leaky faucet, here is a video of us from last year’s anniversary:

justin + emily‘s 3rd anniversary

And of course, a shot from the big day with extra cheese.

twenty two

“be happy for this moment

this moment is your life.”

Studio Mela.

My baby sister turned twenty two.  Almost two months ago.  This was her birthday shoot and in typical “you’re family so you get to wait 2 months for you pictures” fashion, here they are.

Twenty two.  Yikes.  That’s old, but not old enough for me to stop calling you my baby sister.  I don’t like living far away from you but I do like the times we get to spend together.  And I do like seeing you grow.  And I do like texting you.  And I do like seeing you experience college life and finding out who you are.  And I still think about the times I made you scratch my back late at night with a spaghetti spoon.  And I like that even though you are getting older, you are really just a more grown up version of my baby sister.

Erica, I’m happy for moments spent with you.  I’m happy for life spent with you.  Here’s to twenty two million thousand hundred more moments.

It was her idea.

I’m glad we look alike.

Gotta have the mom pleaser.  This one’s it.

Today I feel…

This is a cross between my “Holy Moley, my to do list is 49 miles long and I need 583 hours in the day to get it done but I think I’d rather just make friends with my sweat pants and the couch” and my “You better watch your back, to do list, I’m going to punch you in the face ” face.

I’m hoping the second face wins.

Happy *late* Father’s Day!

Ike treated his dad to a Dairy Queen run on Father’s Day.  He also treated himself to a milkbone sundae.

Though this looks tempting, I think I’ll stick with my hot fudge.

Happy dog.

Us

I have had a photographer crush on The Image is Found for a looong time.  So when I heard they were having a photographer photo session special, we just had to do it.  HAD TO.

I was sooo excited about it until it was time.  Yes, IT WAS TIME to be photographed by THE IMAGE IS FOUND!  Commence freaking out.  I stressed about what to wear.  I stressed about my hair.  And that stray eyebrow.  Certainly I should lose a couple pounds and work on my tan.  How should I stand?  What should I do with my hands?  Of course the weather will cooperate, right?  I stressed out some more about what I should wear and then I panic shopped.  For being a fairly calm and relaxed person, I pretty much gave myself 14 ulcers.

Then I had to laugh at myself.  I often tell my subjects that it doesn’t really matter what you are wearing or how your hair looks or what you do with your hands.  I take photographs to document what life is like right now.  Real life, not some perfectly scripted scene.  And let me tell you, we got real life.  I was under the impression that the weather in So Cal is gorgeous all year round.  Nope.  It was cold and windy and rainy, did I mention windy?  There was no chance of nice hair.  And what to do with my hands?  Hold the scarf down from blowing in Justin’s face.  It was not the perfect day.  I didn’t ever find the perfect outfit.  I’m certain my eyebrows were uneven and I was far from bring tan.  (Let’s be honest, I am never tan.)  And I couldn’t be happier with the pictures.

What an awesome experience #1 to be photographed by people whom I look up to and respect and #2 to just be photographed.  It was good to be reminded of what it feels like to be in front of the camera, to let go of the need to control everything and just be.  Thank you Nate for taking us awkward people and making us look cool, or at least as cool as we will ever look.
